The Geeta Bajaj Fair Play Trophy is one of the special awards given by the Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Tournament Society (JNHTS). The popular hockey tournament was started in  1964 to honour the memory of the nation’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, a few months after his death. Now over 60 years old, it is the oldest and biggest hockey tournament in the country— it runs competitions for different age groups in both the Men’s and Women’s sections, every year since its inception, at the well known Shivaji Stadium:

The running trophy was instituted in the name of Geeta Bajaj by her son-in-law Padma Bhushan & Padma Shri awadee Jasdev Singh, the well-known broadcaster and radio / television journlist, in November 1995, a few months after her sad demise. It honours the team that displays the best sportsmanship, discipline, and fair play during the Junior Girls’ championship within the tournament.

 

Mrs.Geeta Bajaj’s family also donates a prize money each year which goes to the team winning the trophy. Generally, some family member is invited by the organisers every year to personally hand over the trophy and the prize money at the awards’ ceremony. During the last few years, her great grand-daughter Richa, great grand-son Gaurav, and the youngest members of the fourth generation in her lineage Iriana, Enaya and Ekansh have done the honours.

 

The winners of the trophy in 2025 were the girls' team from Town Hall School, Sundargarh, Orissa.
